Meet Gary

Hi, I'm Gary Lindsay, founder of Get Back Up CIC.

For many years, I struggled with addiction, poor mental health, low self-worth, and the consequences of my own decisions. Like many people, I found myself stuck in unhealthy cycles that affected not only my own life, but also the people closest to me.

Over time, through recovery, education, personal development, and the support of others, I began rebuilding my life. What started as a journey to help myself gradually became a passion for helping others realise that change is possible, no matter how difficult life may feel.

Today, I work with community organisations and support groups, helping to facilitate programmes focused on emotional awareness, personal growth, recovery, resilience, and wellbeing. Through both lived experience and professional development, I aim to create spaces where people feel understood, respected, and supported.

My Background

Before creating Get Back Up CIC, I worked across a variety of industries including hospitality, construction, manufacturing, and software development.

These experiences allowed me to meet people from all walks of life and helped me understand that struggles with mental health, addiction, trauma, confidence, and self-worth can affect anyone.

Alongside my professional experience, I have completed training in areas including:

  • Abuse & Trauma Awareness and Recovery

  • Self-Harm & Suicide Awareness

  • Mental Health and Wellbeing

  • Group Facilitation

  • Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Software Development (HND)

The Work I Do Today

I currently support and facilitate programmes that focus on:

  • Emotional awareness

  • Present moment living

  • Recovery and personal growth

  • Trauma awareness

  • Building resilience

  • Healthy routines and self-development

This includes delivering and supporting sessions through organisations such as Men Matter Scotland, No Feart, and community-based wellbeing projects.

Why I Created Get Back UP

Get Back Up CIC was created from a simple belief:

People can change.

Not overnight. Not perfectly.

But with support, honesty, accountability, and the right environment, people can begin rebuilding their lives regardless of their past.

I created Get Back Up because I know what it feels like to lose direction, lose confidence, and lose hope.

I also know what it feels like to slowly build those things back again.

Beyond The Programmes

Away from facilitating and programme development, I'm also:

  • A father

  • A chef

  • A community volunteer

  • Someone passionate about personal growth

  • A person still learning every day

I believe growth doesn't come from being perfect. It comes from being honest, staying accountable, and continuing to move forward.

That helps people see you as relatable rather than positioned as an expert talking down to them.

A Message From Me

If you're struggling right now, feeling stuck, overwhelmed, isolated, or like you've made too many mistakes, please know that change is possible.

Not all at once.

Not overnight.

But one decision, one conversation, and one step at a time.

Sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply get back up.
