Impact & Testimonials

Real people. Real experiences. Meaningful change.

Feedback is an important part of how Get Back Up learns, develops and measures its impact. These experiences come directly from participants, professionals and organisations who have engaged with our programmes and facilitation.

Participant Experiences

Mark Stewart

“I learned to spot and categorise different kinds of abuse going on in my life and around me, and modified my approach in dealing with situations because of it.

I have realised some words or behaviours are triggering to me, and if I feel myself getting annoyed or frustrated by a situation, I ask myself: are you annoyed at the current thing in front of you, or something from the past?

Gary was spot on, explained everything brilliantly and is easy to open up to, as he has experiences of some of the things he taught on the session.

I would 100% recommend the programme. It gave me awareness of things past and present in my life and enabled me to try to face them in a better way instead of being overwhelmed by them.”

“The programme gave me a much better understanding of abuse and trauma and how it affects people’s lives every day. It increased my awareness of recognising the signs of abuse and helped me understand how to support others with empathy and sensitivity.

The programme also helped me reflect on how trauma and past experiences can influence thoughts, feelings, behaviours and relationships, particularly within my own relationship.

Gary is a great guy and very easy to talk to. He created a safe and respectful environment where participants felt comfortable sharing their thoughts and experiences. He openly shared parts of his own journey, which made it easier for others to open up too.

The programme has given me greater awareness of abuse and trauma, but it has also helped me gain a better understanding of myself. It encouraged me to reflect on my life and has definitely helped me become a better person.”

Professional & Partner Feedback

“Since I first met Gary, I have seen his determination and willingness to remain open to teaching. His humility shines through him as he never forgets where he started, and his appreciation towards the people who walk beside him is always evident.

Gary has since taken part in my Facilitator Training for The Dynamics of Abuse course for men, women and young people affected by abuse in many settings. He continues to be part of my close team and is always there for anything he can be.

To be able to give some guidance and support him as he has set up Get Back Up CIC has been a delight, and I am so proud of the person he is today.

He is a great friend and colleague who will make you see that you can be a part of this journey too.”
